I am the founder and operator of 71bay, a social enterprise working with women in Bangladesh through carefully designed and crafted items for the home and self.
My role allows me to gain profound insight into the lives and voices of women who often live their lives largely in the shadows – in a historically patriarchal society and often, in the most vulnerable circumstances. I work closely with our women artisans and their wider communities, emphasizing on “trade, not aid”. I strive to help create opportunities in work, with fair trade principles, community-driven empowerment and sustainability at the front of mind. As a deeply personal project and venture, 71bay is the bridge between my two homes, Bangladesh and Australia, a connection that holds special significance to bridge the heritage and history of my upbringing with the birthplace and home of my children.
My background in Architecture gives me a unique perspective on both the natural and built environments, along with a deep understanding of societal and sustainability challenges. This interdisciplinary understanding enhances my skills and interests to inform my approach to creating thoughtful and
impactful designs. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Design by Research, with 71bay as the central focus of my studies.
