Monthly News and Updates October 2023

In recent months, the Neighbourhood Circle Committee, comprised of representatives from Moral Fairground, community-led action groups, the Immigration Museum, local residents, and professionals in the area, have joined forces to invigorate the dynamic heart of Melbourne's CBD - the Turning Circle Precinct. This district, bordered by Collins, Queen, William Streets, and the Yarra River, brims with potential for redefining our living, working, and recreational spaces.

The committee embarked on an ambitious endeavor - the inception of Neighbourhood Circle Nights, a series of vibrant pop-up events held every Thursday evening for over two months. These gatherings were crafted to reshape the precinct, nurture communal bonds, encourage active engagement, and kindle innovative ideas for the area. Through an array of activities, we celebrated our shared heritage and storied history, uniting communities, exploring the precinct's historical significance, and injecting newfound vitality into the space.

These events provided an open canvas for numerous individuals and communities to host their own creative ventures - from pottery sessions and book launches to film festivals, and more.

It's only when we pause to reflect that we grasp the full extent of our accomplishments. These milestones have the power to leave an enduring mark and set the stage for what's possible when a united community channels their aspirations into reality.

Our final Neighbourhood Circle Pop-Up event at the Immigration Museum was a fantastic way to end our series. We came together in a space that celebrates diversity and our rich history. It was an incredible experience uniting as a community, celebrating our diverse cultural backgrounds within the historic walls of the old custom house, one of Melbourne's most important 19th-century public buildings. Thank you to everyone who joined us in this memorable celebration of people and place.

The Neighbourhood Circle Nights is supported through the Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund – a $200 million partnership of the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne.
