Fair Fashion Show

Date: Friday 2 December, 2011
Location: BMW Edge, Federation Square

The Fair@Square fashion show showcases a variety of approaches to sustainable, ethical fashion. The mix of fair trade, recycled, organic, and handmade items is just a small selection from the growing number of labels which are proving that fashion with a conscience isn't just about organic cotton T-shirts any more - there's plenty to choose from for more dressy occasions too. Stay tuned for more about the inspirational labels that will feature on the catwalk.

Following the fashion show, RMIT fashion students will introduce their designs, explaining how they have incorporated sustainability and discussing their sources of inspiration and some ideas for a more sustainable future in fashion.

MC: Em Rusciano
A former Australian Idol finalist, and now appearing on Network Ten's The 7pm Project, Em describes herself as having the looks of a young Judy Garland, the warmth of a mother in a Dolmio commercial, the razor-sharp wit of a 1930s screwball heroine, and the musical tastes of a mid-forties gay man from Memphis. We're looking forward to the humour and style she will bring to the Fair@Square catwalk.

The Scarf Project
Moral Fairground and RMIT students have embarked on a mission to raise money for Lao Sericulture, a not for profit organisation and registered World Fair Trade member in Laos. Funds will go towards water filters and toilets for schools and hospitals in the remote villages. Silk scarves made by hand in the villages in Laos will be hand printed by the RMIT students and be available for sale at the fashion show. This is a great chance to purchase a unique fair trade fashion item and help people in Laos at the same time.
